Weekly News writer and openSUSE member Jan-Simon Möller accepted ‘People of openSUSE’ interview request and shared with us some information about himself. Jan is also the maintainer of the hamradio repository on the Build Service!

</table> #### Please introduce yourself! I'm a student of electrical engineering at Leibniz Universitat Hannover. My favourite hobbies beside Linux are amateur-radio/hamradio (callsign dl9pf) and being member of the THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief). I'm 28 years old. #### Tell us about the background to your computer use. My first computer was a C16 with a cassette-tape. It was a funny time in front of the TV and a game of 1500 lines of basic typed-in from a book - pixels of 1cm x 1cm :D . My next station was an Amiga 500 - great games! I still like "Ports of Call" ;) . Next stations were all x86 with DOS, W3.11 and up. #### When and why did you start using openSUSE/SUSE Linux? I started using SUSE Linux at 7.1. #### When did you join the openSUSE community and what made you do that? I'm using openSUSE since the project started - it suites my needs perfectly. Even some gaming works now - ever tried "Battle for Wesnoth" ? #### In what way do you participate in the openSUSE project? Tim Fischer and I created the hamradio repository in openSUSE Build Service. Atm I'm also writing the Weekly Newsletter. Some more small bits and pieces. #### What especially motivates you to participate in the openSUSE project? The friendly and helpful community, the fascinating openSUSE Build Service and the fantastic distro! #### What do you think was your most important contribution to the openSUSE project/community or what is the contribution that you're most proud of? Hamradio repository. #### When do you usually spend time on the openSUSE project? Whenever I find some time. #### Three words to describe openSUSE? Or make up a proper slogan! Rock-stable, all-round & just well done. #### What do you think the future holds for the openSUSE project? World domination ;) - just kidding! If we can improve 11.0 the way we did compaired to 10.3, then 11.1 will rock even more! #### A person asks you why he/she should choose openSUSE instead of other distribution/OS. What would be your arguments to convince him/her to pick up openSUSE? Just try it! You will find out yourself ! #### Which members of the openSUSE community have you met in person? I met lots of people at LinuxTag 2008. Zonker, Martin, Christian, Henne, Stephan and many more. #### How many icons are currently on your desktop? Too many. #### What is the application you can't live without? And why? Midnight Commander (remember nc.exe ?!!) #### Which application or feature should be invented as soon as possible? A good _automagic_ 2-way remote sync-tool for my ~/Documents. #### Which is your preferred text editor? And why? mcedit as I'm really used to it. #### Which famous person would you want to join the openSUSE community? Lt. Cmdr. Data. #### Which computer related skills would you like to have? Some more C. #### The Internet crashes for a whole week -- how would you feel, what would you do? Finally read the books I ever wanted to read and trying to get some contacts over amateur radio. #### Which is your favorite movie scene? Is it cold here, or is it just me? #### Star Trek or Star Wars? Star Trek. #### What is your favorite food and drink? Baguette, Cheese and wine. #### Favorite game or console (in your childhood and nowadays)? Ports of Call, Wing Commander. #### Which city would you like to visit? Moscow, Tokyo and Sydney. #### What is your preferred way to spend your vacation? Maximum stealth. I'd like to go sailing again. #### Someone gives you $1.000.000 -- what would you do with the money? I would donate a part, travel and save the rest. #### If traveling through time was possible -- when would we be most likely to meet you? Good question. I'm curious about future. #### There's a thunderstorm outside -- do you turn off your computer? No. #### Have your ever missed an appointment because you forgot about it while sitting at your computer? No. #### You couldn't live without...
